Teaser

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

I am sorry for not writing here for over a month ‒ a tremendous amount of work has been done during this time. I am also busy with the work, studies and my other projects. There are a lot of news now and to come, but first things first.

  • Hopefully this week or the least ‒ in the beginnning of the next one a brand new site for LuSec 2010 conference will start. It is almost ready, just needs some polishing and testing.
  • For those of you who use twitter, you can now add lusecconf. I will post updates there.
  • The conference day is 19th of February, 2010! Don’t miss it as it will be awesome event!
  • lusec.al1us.net will become more of a “behind the scences” blog for the conference and for the LuSec student group.

So stay tuned!

Small announcement

Monday, October 12th, 2009

The “LuSec 2010″ will probably take place in the middle of February (12th or 19th).  At the moment I am busy with some bureaucracy, like writing plans, speaking with the university and other companies, looking for sponsors, but soon I will start the initial preparations for the competitions. For this part I am looking for a few volunteers with technical skills and experience in the areas of computer networking, programming, forensics, network and web security, server administration (*BSD/Linux), virtualization technologies, and a wish to help.

There is no diffirence if you are located here in Luleå or somewhere else. From my side I can offer you some very interesting challenges you have probably never met. So if you are interested, just drop me a line to alius(ät)ludd.ltu.se

Thanks to one visitor of this site who informed me about the problems with Neil Costigan’s video presentation from the last year. I will try to fix that soon.

LuSec Briefings #1

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

After some hot discussions, we finally agreed on a meeting next Friday (9th of October) at 1500 in the room A405. Onur will make a presentation about the Cisco IOS and I will speak about the IPv6.

Anyone interested feel free to join.

UPD: The meeting is moved to the next Friday (16th of October). I will be out of Sweden, so no IPv6 fun, but there should be some other interesting presentations

10:00-10:30 – Opening of the conference. Welcome speech from the university administration. Announce of the competition rules

11:15-11:30 – Break

12:00-13:00 – Coffee break. Start of the key-signing party. Announce of other competitions.
13:00-13:30 – Presentation of Artjom Vassiljev “Introduction to PSTN security”
13:30-13:45 – Break
13:45-14:30 – Presentation of Neil Costigan “Behaviometrics”
14:30-16:00 – Continuation of the key-signing party and competitions. Announce of the winners and giving out the awards. Closing of the conference

Behaviometrics:
Behaviometrics is the science of analyzing one or more behavioural traits without interrupting or interfering with user activities. Conventional login credentials function as a gatekeeper against intrusions. But what happens if an intruder has acquired the password or operates post log in? Behaviometrics adds a new layer that protects the entire session post log in. The active user’s behaviour is verified continuously to make sure that it is the authenticated user.

Introduction to Public Key Cryptography:
Public key (PK) cryptography is used extensively on the internet underlying security and e-Commerce.
This talk will give a non-mathematical overview of the various PK systems, discuss issues with how it is used, and what are the hot topics in PK research.

Introduction to telephone network insecurities:
With the wide spread of the Internet and transition of telephone calls from PSTN to VoIP, less attention is paid to the security of modems, hooked to telephone lines and private branch exchanges with default settings. All this creates a big security hole in the enterprise infrastructure.

Key-signing party

Friday, January 30th, 2009

The event is becoming more interesting and more fun, so don’t miss it, as you will have an amazing opportunity to speak with a lot of great people! In order to make this process more easy, more geeky, there will be a key-signing party during the conference. All you need to have with you, is the printed or written-down on a piece of paper fingerprint of your key, and have the public key uploaded on some key-server, so that others could sign it.

We will have printed tables on paper, so that it will be easier for you to collect fingerprints and other necessary information about people in order to sign their key.

Conference room

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

I am happy to announce, that the event will take place in the university room C305. The room is big enough for everybody, and has all the modern necessary equipment. It also has everything needed to create a webcast, and record presentations, so that they will be available later in the Internet. All you need is to download the Marratech software, which is free and available for Windows, Linux, and MacOS and use room C305 to see, what happens during the conference. No need to login, just enter the http://media.online.ltu.se:8000/ address in Marratech and click on the C305 room link.
“LuSec” will start at 1000 and continue until 1600.
